Located just over 25 miles from the state capitol of Salem in Oregon’s beautiful Willamette Valley, Lyons is easily accessible just off of Highway 22 on your way up the Cascade Mountain Range.
The fishing and floating opportunities on the waters of the North Santiam River are the main attraction for visitors to the 30-acre John Neal Memorial Park. While camping or picnicking at John Neal, visitors can search for the park’s abundant wildlife on trails which wind through wetlands and beaver ponds.
To visit this little gem on the North Santiam River, turn north on 13th Street in Lyons, follow this road to the end where the campground is nestled in groves of large fir trees lining the river. The campground is open from mid-April through mid-October and offers 40 campsites, potable water, showers, and restrooms. The day use facilities include picnic sites, a playground, boat ramp, hiking trail and a reservable picnic shelter. A camp host is on site from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend.
Lyons is surrounded by a panoramic view of mountains to the north and south, These mountains are covered with tall firs, cedars and hardwoods – a scenic location to hike, bike, swim, boat, float and other outdoor activities, OR, just relax and listen to the river rush by.
